Exotic Cars

Exotic cars are all about pleasure. They are meant to offer a superlative driving experience, to pleasure the senses with their mechanical superiority and aesthetically pleasing lines. Some of the best exotic cars are internationally renown for their performance and style.

Maserati, Lamborghini, and Ferrari are among these international automotive superstars. Of these, Maserati and Ferrari have the longest history, going back almost as for as the mass-market automotive industry itself.

The Maserati brothers began their automotive work before 1910, and one brother, Alfieri, opened a garage in 1914. It was in his garage that the first real racing cars were created. In the late 1950’s, after years of success in the auto sport world, Maserati began to focus on luxurious, high performance consumer models. The performance and style of these Italian-made automobiles have secured their position among the world’s favorite exotic cars.

Enzo Ferrari was a racecar driver during the early part of the 20th century and soon moved into manufacturing cars. Experimenting with numerous designs, he was able to bring the Ferrari name and models to the forefront of the racing world. The racing success of his cars also propelled him, like the Maserati manufacturers, into the creation of exotic, sleek, fast cars for the road, purchased by automotive connoisseurs the world over.

The Lamborghini name, despite the company’s troubled financial history, is well known for beautiful, low-slung automobiles. Sleek and fast, these vehicles hold a firm place in the realm of exotic cars. Interestingly, Ferruccio Lamborghini’s foray into auto manufacturing was inspired by a dispute with Enzo Ferrari over a clutch problem Lamborghini was having in a Ferrari made car. Ferrari mocked him for being a maker of tractors, which Lamborghini was, and suggested that that may be the problem, rather than the clutch itself. The competition between the two was born.

There are numerous makes and models of exotic cars available today. And, like those that came before them, these cars take their influence from the proven high performance vehicles of the racetrack, the elegance of design and style deemed best suited to contain such power for use on everyday highways and byways, and the strong personalities of those early creators of exotic cars, car meant for those who drive for the pure pleasure of it.
